Seriously, what is the problem with men and understanding female biology?
This week, we’ll be presenting a very special evening called “How Do Girls Work?” This is born out of the following two incidents in my life -
1) I was once in a bar with Shannon O’Neill and got in a fight with her over where urine exits the female body. Needless to say she was correct, as she is a female with firsthand knowledge of the process.
This is not the first time I’ve run into this particular instance of ignorance. Nor, sadly, the second. (Actually, now that I think about it, it’s not even the third.) And that’s this PARTICULAR instance of ignorance. I also
dated knew a guy who failed his AP Bio exam because he couldn’t deign to bother studying the human reproduction system. HUMAN reproduction system. Because, you know, girly stuff.
It’s like little boys classify all that stuff as girly bits and never bother to learn the finer points as they grow up and become otherwise fascinated with said girly bits. It’s stunning.
Diana - I could get into all the cultural breakdowns of being raised in a tight knit community of suppressed Catholics, and how those values infected how we were taught in public schools, and how over time I have realized how woefully inadequate my education had been, and how my status as a man with low self-esteem and diagnosed mental issues relating to that has lead to a mixture of crippling awkwardness and internalized anger that has limited my ability to be comfortable with my own body, let alone anyone else’s.
OR - we can all just have a laugh about it on a goofy call in public access show. Your call!
