TCGS 5/23 - Gethard’s Birthday/#BonnarooGethard/Shellshag!
Thanks to everyone who watched last week’s show. The ROBOT FIGHTS were super fun. HAND JOB ACADEMY were super fun and also semi-disturbing. We really enjoyed doing that show and also hope you enjoyed doing it.
This week, Wednesday marks my 32nd birthday. I am getting kind of old, but feeling pretty good about it.
Also, this week is the last show before I head out to the West Coast to start the mad dash back across the country that is #BonnarooGethard. The process of organizing #BonnarooGethard has been massive and comprehensive and straining.
SO -
This week we are going to take it relatively easy. No cardboard exo-skeletons, for example. BUT – I do want to invite any friends of mine, friends of the show, friends of the world out to the studio for what will serve as my de-facto birthday celebration. I have no idea if anyone is planning anything for this. But if you’ll allow me to be cheesy for a moment – this show is the highlight of every week for me, the people involved in it are people I consider family at this point, and the callers who call in feel like weird, oddly close being that they’re faceless friends. I am glad my birthday is on a Wednesday this year so I can spend it with all of you.
Everyone is invited – past guests, new guests, whomever – please feel free to drop by and hang out.
ALSO – if you are somewhere in America and watch the show but have never called in – please call in and let us know if you want to be part of #BonnarooGethard. It’s going to be a taxing, trying, physically exhausing process – it’s the first project of this type that I’ve done in a few years where I actually feel nervous – and this will be our launch show. This may be the last time our viewers see me in one piece, so please call up, say your goodbyes, offer your help, and let me know what you think my chances are of not collapsing of dehydration in the desert and being sent to a hospital in the greater Albuquerque area.
OUR MUSICAL GUEST THIS WEEK IS SHELLSHAG. HERE’S THE THING ABOUT SHELLSHAG – YOU SHOULD ALREADY BE ROCKING TO SHELLSHAG. I don’t know how two people make more noise and have more fun than bands triple their size, but Shellshag does it. I’m no authority on music, but if I can say one thing from the layman’s perspective, it’s that Shellshag feels like something completely fresh and brand new while also reminding me of the bands from my youth that made me love music in the first place. Shellshag is a two headed monster and I feel like the TCGS audience is going to walk away from this week with a new favorite band, and guess what? That band is Shellshag.
Making The Map with the #BonnarooGethard Team
I can say that I have so much love in my heart for guys like Keith “Bananaman” Haskel, Robert Malone, Andrew Flynn Soltys, Andrew “Hot Dog” Parrish, and J.D. Amato. But do I feel like they are necessarily the safety net one wants when they are the production crew who can potentially keep one alive when one is wandering through a desert? No, no I do not.

Here’s the official announcement of #BonnarooGethard, a project where I’ll walk across America to try and get to a show on time. It’s going to be physically taxing, mentally exhausting, and most of all, it’s going to rely on people all over the country finding out about it and choosing to get involved if I am going to survive it. This is the WhiteOut Athletics commercial that aired last night on our show. Created by Keith Haskel and Rob Malone. It’s sort of surreal watching this commercial knowing how the Hintmaster’s story ends.
Also, we have nothing to do with this… but WhiteOutAthletics.com began existing somewhere around the 20min mark of last night’s show.
This is the current front page of MNN.org. This image is a reminder of the simpler times back when TCGS was hosted by Chris Gethard and had no affiliation with either White Out Athletics or the Hintmaster. I would recommend taking a screenshot of this because at literally any second that image might change to a picture of the Hintmaster holding up a White Out Athletics logo.
