YO! This week’s musical guest, a band called THUNDERA, came to us by way of our submissions box, and I fell in love almost before I had listened to them. Three-girl NYC punk rock band naming influences like Bikini Kill, Guns’n’Roses, AND Patti Smith? SIGN ME UP! Or rather, sign YOU up, because you’re gonna love the shit out of them this week. Spare, raw, and badass - the epitome of the genre, IMHO. Also, this band came to be because three girls wanted to play punk rock and had no one else to play with - then they found each other and started this kickass band. Yeah! FIND YOUR PEOPLE AND DO WHAT YOU LOVE!
See you at the show!
On the road back to New York. We stopped at Corbett’s Burgers and Soda Bar in North Carolina. Gethard is in his goddamn element.
Chris has started a new podcast about soda called FIZZY BOYS with old friend Don Fanelli! In episode one they talk about their friendship, they review Fentiman’s Cherrytree Cola, get Laura’s opinion and play a game where they brainstorm what a grocery store proprietor would do in a life or death situation. Enjoy!
If you follow this blog, there’s a pretty good chance you found me from my work at CollegeHumor. And so, it is with a heavy heart I must report that I’ve made the difficult decision to leave the company, move to LA, and try something new.
Working at CollegeHumor was at least as much fun as it looked, and maybe more. This isn’t a hindsight revelation I’m having now as I look back, I knew it every day I was there. I have unending gratitude to all the wonderful friends who made working there so fun. I am especially indebted to CH founders Josh, Ricky, Jake, and Zach. I met those four in 2004, and things pretty much haven’t stopped getting better since. I also want to thank everyone who ever read, watched, or shared something I made for the site. You guys are the only reason they kept paying me to do this stuff for nearly nine years, and I will always appreciate it.
I don’t know what the future of Bleep Bloop holds, but the last episode I’m doing (for at least a long while) should be going up soon. Yet more thanks to everyone who bothered me about bringing back Bleep Bloop during that year or two it was dormant. You guys are the only reason the show returned, and I’m so glad it did. Some of my all-time favorite episodes were in this most recent run (I’ll never forget you, Mr. Runch Slam). Special thanks to my partners in Bloop, Pat and Creighton. I can’t say every episode came out great, but these guys always made them fun.
goodgreat news. My podcast The Jeff Rubin Jeff Rubin Show will continue, though it’s going to be a little less frequent while I move and learn to surf. Tomorrow’s episode is called “New York Bucket List,” and next week (post-finale) we’ll have our annual Breaking Bad recap. After that, I’m going every-other-week until at least 2014. Lots of cool guests coming up including an extreme cleaner from Hoarders, a romance novel editor, and more.
The above pictures are from, in order - CHTV episode 3, The CollegeHumor Show, the 2004 Christmas party, the roast of Amir, one of the intern appreciation nights, the first camping trip, Hardly Working Flash Forward, the first All-Nighter, and NY Comic-Con 2012.
I think that’s it! Thanks again everyone. It was so much fun, and I already miss it.
Best of luck, Jeff!
You can hear Gethard on episode 20 of The Jeff Rubin Jeff Rubin Show.
This week Connor stopped by to play a song by his and Hallie’s favorite… Elvis Costello! (And you won’t wanna miss Gethard’s understated-yet-masterful performance on the BUBUL TARANG.)
We’re celebrating the release of Elvis Costello’s new album with The Roots, which comes out next week. Connor is a long-time, super-zealous Elvis Costello fan, and he proves it in this video. In fact, he’s been Tumblr-ing like crazy about Elvis Costello in the weeks leading up to the new album release! Check it his “40 Days Of Elvis Costello” posts. His enthusiasm is contagious:
Get your ukes on!
It’s been one week since Messenger Bag abandoned a handcuffed Chris Gethard to be beaten mercilessly on camera in exchange for 15 more weeks on our show. You guys have been talking about it all week - but tonight, Gethard and Messenger Bag will be reunited for the first time. It’s probably going to get really awkward.
We don’t have much planned tonight - so you’re going to be calling the shots. Give us a call at 212-757-1393 and steer the conversation however you see fit.
It’s going to be a fun, weird, tense one tonight.
